An employee at a wildlife park in Papua New Guinea died a day after being attacked by a crocodile.

The man was in the crocodile enclosure at the Port Moresby Adventure Park when the incident occurred on Saturday, September 5.

Taken to 3 Mile General Hospital for treatment, he tragically succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, September 6, around 7 a.m.

Heartbreaking images circulating on social media show the moment the employee clung to the edge of the pool while witnesses tried to help him.

The crocodile appeared to have its jaws locked around the man's legs, while someone extended a pole through the enclosure fence.

Another person then appeared to support the trainer from the edge of the pool, as onlookers gathered around the enclosure.

An eyewitness, Gibson John, told the ABC that the man was attacked while attempting to feed the reptile.

"He brought the chicken near the fence and the crocodile lunged at it, trying to pull it into the water," Mr. John said.

"There was nothing we could do at the time, [but] I managed to contact the St. John ambulance service."

Mr. John stated that the crocodile held the man's legs between its jaws for more than an hour before help arrived.

"The security guards did not have firearms, but they gave him a small iron bar to use while waiting for the police and ambulances," he explained.

"He was suffering terribly, but he couldn't even cry out."

"He couldn't speak properly at that point. You could see all his pain in his eyes. The only thing I heard him say was, 'I didn't do anything wrong.'"

Mr. John revealed that he later learned that the man, who was from the Admiralty Islands (Western Islands) in northern Papua New Guinea, had his leg torn off before being rushed to the hospital.

"I've never seen anything like it before. I couldn't believe my eyes," he said.

The trainer had apparently worked at the park for about two years. The park has now closed indefinitely, while colleagues who witnessed this terrible tragedy are gathering in a funeral home following the victim's tragic death.

C'est peut être pour cette raison que dans certaines régions les gens n'apprennent pas à nager ou ont peur de l'eau
