Pétrole et gaz : Le Sénégal se retrouve avec 12,5 milliards sur trois mois
After the first three months of 2026, Senegal had earned only 12.5 billion CFA francs from its oil and gas production. This amount is less than the 13.8 billion CFA francs projected at the beginning of the year for this period. Compared to last year, Dakar has lost 1.4 billion CFA francs this year. These figures are provided by the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Budget in its quarterly budget execution report.
The ministry did not offer an explanation for this specific point. However, in the same document, it attributed the decrease in revenue collected from the specific tax on petroleum products to a contraction in taxable volumes. This decrease in volume can also impact the profits to be distributed.
In any case, this amount further informs Senegalese people about what they have a right to expect from the exploitation of their oil. Until now, the main argument has been that the major companies that have invested billions of dollars are paid first before Senegal, the owner of the resource, benefits.
