66th anniversary of Ivory Coast's independence: Oligui Nguéma, a very punctual guest

66e anniversaire de l’indépendance de la Côte d’Ivoire : Oligui Nguéma, un invité plus que ponctuel

Friday, August 7th, is a day of celebration in Ivory Coast. The country will celebrate the 66th anniversary of its independence. Invited to the official events, Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma is already in Abidjan.

The leader arrived in Ivory Coast's economic capital yesterday, Tuesday, August 4, accompanied by his wife, Zita. He was welcomed by the Ivorian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nialé Kaba, and received military honors in accordance with the protocol reserved for heads of state.

Oligui Nguéma thus arrives in Abidjan 72 hours before the start of the celebrations for the country's 66th anniversary of independence. It's safe to say that the Gabonese leader is more than punctual. But what will he do before the big day?

"To further strengthen cooperation between the two countries"

According to the official website of the Gabonese presidency, the man who overthrew Ali Bongo will hold "meetings with the Gabonese community established in Ivory Coast, visits to sites and structuring projects, as well as exchanges aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries."

The invitation extended to the 51-year-old leader to Ivory Coast's independence celebration testifies to the excellent relations of friendship, fraternity and cooperation that unite the two countries.

It is worth recalling that Oligui Nguéma had already taken part in the inauguration ceremony of Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara in December 2025.
