Centrafrique: un ressortissant suisse et un militaire tués dans une attaque
A Swiss national and a Central African soldier were killed in an attack on Thursday north of Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, a military source said on Monday.
"A Swiss national who came for a mining exploration was killed along with his security detail, a non-commissioned officer in the Central African army," a senior Central African army officer, who requested anonymity, told AFP.
"They were attacked on July 30, 18 km from the town of Damara," he specified, about fifty km north of Bangui, adding that the assailants were "unidentified armed bandits."
The bodies have been repatriated to Bangui and the Central African justice system will "open an investigation to determine the circumstances and prosecute the perpetrators of this attack," according to the same source.
In this landlocked state bordering Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the security situation has improved after the bloody civil war of the 2010s, but it remains fragile and there has been a resurgence of violence in some regions of the country in recent months.
