Guinée-Bissau : Suspension provisoire de la détention de Domingos Simões Pereira
The Bissau Regional Military Court decided on July 22, 2026, to suspend for three months the provisional detention order against Domingos Simões Pereira, president of the PAIGC. The decision, signed by military investigating judge Mamadú Embaló, is based on humanitarian and legal grounds, following a favorable opinion from the military prosecutor's office.
According to the court order, the suspension is based on a medical certificate issued by Dr. Domiciano Bernardo Naocam Mango of the main military hospital in Bissau. The document emphasizes the lack of adequate conditions in Guinea-Bissau to provide the political leader with the necessary clinical treatment in Portugal.
During this three-month period, Domingos Simões Pereira will have to respect several obligations: refrain from any activity within a political party and comply with the constraints related to his procedural status.
At the end of this period, his situation will be reassessed by the regional military court, in accordance with Article 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Arrested since the coup that interrupted the legislative and presidential elections of November 2025, Domingos Simões Pereira is being prosecuted for alleged involvement in financing the attempted coup of October 2025.
This suspension marks an important step in a case that continues to polarize the political and judicial scene in Guinea-Bissau.
