Following the violent mutiny that shook Niamey on the night of Friday, August 28, to Saturday, August 29, 2026, the Nigerian government issued a statement denying allegations circulating on social media that it was supporting an attempt to destabilize Niger. Yesterday, Thursday, September 17, the Nigerien Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing its surprise at Abuja's reaction.
"No official statement has implicated the Federal Republic of Nigeria."
He observes that Niger "cannot be held responsible for the statements conveyed by social networks, unless the Nigerian government bears some responsibility for this attempt at destabilization."
In any case, "Niger does not make accusations. It denounces on the basis of well-established facts," the note emphasizes, not without "recalling that no official statement from the Nigerien authorities or Nigerien official has implicated the Federal Republic of Nigeria."
If only they had listened carefully to the testimony
Furthermore, "Captain Roger Gabriel at no point in his testimony did he mention or allude to Nigeria and its authorities."
According to the military in power in Niamey, the Nigerian authorities would have realized that they were not implicated if they had only taken the time to listen carefully to the testimony in question.
