Bilan agrométéorologique : Des pluies soutenues en août, conditions agricoles favorables au Sud
The third ten-day period of August 2026 was marked by rainfall that was lower than that of the previous ten-day period, but deemed sufficient in several localities of Senegal, according to the latest agrometeorological bulletin.
Significant rainfall totals were recorded, particularly in the south and southeast of the country. Salémata, in the Kédougou region, topped the list with 235.7 mm of rain. This was followed by Linguère with 180 mm, Ziguinchor with 157.2 mm, Foundiougne with 142.3 mm, Guinguinéo with 137.7 mm, and Kédougou with 118.6 mm.
Generally well-developed cultures
From an agricultural perspective, conditions remain generally favorable for crop growth, particularly in the southern and southeastern areas of the country.
In the Central region, however, the development of certain crops remains uneven. Technical services report dry spells following the first rains, which disrupted the growth cycle in these areas.
Rising river levels and improved pastoral conditions
From a hydrological perspective, the main river basins are showing an upward trend. Water levels in the Senegal, Gambia, and Casamance rivers are rising.
In the pastoral sector, the situation is also improving. Vegetation growth is benefiting from the recent rainfall. Traditional watering points, particularly ponds, are generally well-filled and ensuring livestock watering.
Agricultural authorities continue to monitor the wintering campaign, as the country enters the final phase of the rainy season.
