Bagarre sanglante sur fond de champs de haricots : Le berger et le cultivateur s'expliquent à la barre
Shepherd M. Bâ and farmer K. Seck appeared this Wednesday before the Thiès court for flagrant offenses on charges of mutual assault and battery. The two men had injured each other during a violent altercation in Fandène, stemming from a dispute over a bean field.
In court, farmer K. Seck explained that the herder had driven his herd of cattle into his field. Alerted by his father, who had spotted the animals in the field, he went to the scene, armed with a stick. According to his account, he tried to lead the cattle to the Fandène gendarmerie brigade. But just as he was about to do so, the herder, who had been hiding nearby, intervened to stop him.
K. Seck claims that Mr. Bâ, armed with a machete, attacked him and struck him several times. He says he received a total of six machete blows, to the point of losing the use of two fingers. To defend himself, he retaliated with his stick, striking the shepherd on the head before managing to subdue him.
Before the judges, Mr. Bâ contested this version of events. The shepherd denied that his flock had entered the bean field. He maintained that the farmer had attacked him first and that he had unintentionally injured him while trying to defend himself. He also claimed to have been set upon and beaten by several armed men.
In his submissions, the public prosecutor stated that the facts were undisputed and requested the application of the law. Following the hearings, the case was adjourned for deliberation.
