Des manifestants contre la répression en Iran bravent une interdiction de rassemblement à Paris

Protesters denouncing domestic repression in Iran gathered in Paris on Saturday despite a ban on demonstrations upheld by the administrative courts, according to concordant sources.

Several buses arrived at Place Vauban, near Les Invalides, where the demonstration was to be held, and 20 people were arrested late in the morning by law enforcement officers who issued warnings for the demonstrators to disperse, a police source told AFP.

"They arrested about twenty people without reason. On the side of the protesters, there is no violence. The police have dispersed many people and are preventing others from joining, many people are scattered in the neighborhood," Afchine Alavi, a member of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), the political wing of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK) - considered "terrorist" by Tehran - which is among the organizers, told AFP.

Police used "pepper spray" and several protesters were injured, he said.

"There are still thousands of people shouting slogans and waving flags," he added. Images on social media showed people holding signs that read "Neither Shah nor Mullah."

"We had asked the protesters not to come and to wait for the result of the appeal we filed urgently. But we cannot control everyone and buses arrived from everywhere," said Afchine Alavi.

The demonstration, scheduled for Saturday at 2:00 PM, was organized by the Voice of Iran collective, formed for the occasion and comprising associations of the Iranian diaspora and French and international NGOs. Among them were the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), the Association of Iranian Women in France, and the Committee for the Support of Human Rights in Iran (CSDHI). The organizers hoped for a turnout of 100,000 people.

On Saturday morning, the Paris administrative court upheld the ban on the demonstration issued the previous day by the police prefecture.

This highlighted the "particularly tense national and international context" and the "serious risk that clashes between activists with opposing views could occur during this demonstration, potentially causing serious public disorder".

George Soros et Israël ne peuvent plus financer de manifestants en Iran, ils en financent en France.
