États-Unis: Kohen Wiley, un bébé d'un an, tué par la Police américaine dans les bras de sa mère
In the US, there is outrage in the state of Mississippi. Police officers opened fire on a car carrying two women and a one-year-old baby, Kohen Wiley. The baby was killed by gunfire while in his mother's arms. According to France Info, the mother was the target of the shooting.
Police were called to arrest Kohen's mother and her companion, both suspected of stealing a package of diapers. The intervention quickly escalated and ended in a fatal shooting.
In a state of shock, but unharmed after the tragedy, the child's mother spoke out on social media. "I lifted my baby to try to show them he was in the car. There were three or four shots. One of the bullets hit him in the chest. Another hit him in the arm and thigh. We went to the hospital where he was pronounced dead," said Vellesiya Wiley, Kohen Wiley's mother.
The African American community is denouncing an act of racism. Protesters gathered at the scene of the tragedy to express their anger, chanting "No Justice, No Peace." Some believe the child was killed because of the color of his skin.
The family disputes the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation's version of events.
Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindel revealed that the driver allegedly drove directly at the police. It was at this point that an officer reportedly opened fire. This version of events was quickly dismissed by the victim's family.
In an effort to ease tensions, Commissioner Tindel announced the suspension of the police officer who shot the baby, pending further investigation into the circumstances surrounding Kohen Wiley's death.
