Haïti: les autorités annoncent des élections en fin d'année sous condition de sécurité
Haiti's electoral authorities announced on Monday, July 27, that presidential and legislative elections would be held at the end of the year, contingent on "the establishment of an acceptable security climate," a tall order in this Caribbean country ravaged by gang violence.
The first round of the various elections is scheduled for December 13, 2026, and the second round for February 21, 2027, according to the electoral calendar published by the Provisional Electoral Council. The Council stated in its press release that "meeting these deadlines depends on the establishment of an acceptable security environment." Haiti has not held elections since 2016.
