We now know a little more about the circumstances surrounding the death of 11-year-old Lyhanna. Autopsy results revealed that she was raped, according to AFP.

The schoolgirl had been missing for several months before being discovered on June 4 in a disused silo located in the town of Pycasquier, in the South-West (Toulouse).

According to the autopsy results, biological cells belonging to Jérôme Bardella, the main suspect, were found on intimate areas of Lyhanna.

For the time being, Bardella, 41, has chosen to remain silent before the investigating judge. He has been formally charged with the kidnapping and confinement of a minor under 15 years of age. He is being held in pretrial detention at the Mont-de-Marsan prison (Southwest France), in solitary confinement.

Reaction from the family's lawyer

Having been informed of the autopsy results, the lawyer for Lyhanna's parents reacted Thursday evening via a press release.

“Faced with the worst that could happen to a child and parents, their anger is matched only by their disgust. The family asks that its privacy and personal life be respected,” writes lawyer François Roujou de Boubée.
