For Elon Musk, Marine Le Pen is "France's hope"

The billionaire, a close associate of Donald Trump, has expressed his support for Marine Le Pen on his social network X. He had already encouraged her during her trial.

On Wednesday, Elon Musk voiced his support for Marine Le Pen, the National Rally candidate in the 2027 presidential election, on X, sparking criticism of the billionaire's interference in French politics.

"She is France's last hope," declared the Tesla executive, who also owns the social network that reposted a message claiming that "Marine Le Pen's poll numbers have TAKEN OFF."

On the same social media platform, the French Foreign Minister criticized the American billionaire, calling on him to reconsider his judgment. "As we say in French: only fools never change their minds," declared Jean-Noël Barrot.

Until now, Elon Musk had provided personal support to Marine Le Pen, notably during her trial, without clearly endorsing her candidacy in next year's French elections.

"I hope and encourage Ms. Le Pen to overcome this persecution and to run in the next presidential election" in 2027, he had declared on X on April 1, 2025 after the first instance conviction of the leader of the National Rally, who was then sentenced to five years of ineligibility for misappropriation of public funds.

"Foreign interference" denounced

Last week, the appeals court reduced her five-year ban from holding office to 15 months, allowing her to run in the election. She announced her candidacy shortly thereafter.

The message posted Wednesday by Elon Musk in support of Marine Le Pen is not insignificant, given that the American owns the powerful algorithms of the social network X.

Antoine Léaument (LFI), the MP for Essonne, denounced "the foreign interference of Elon Musk (which) began for the presidential election," calling on the independent public authority guaranteeing freedom of communication (ARCOM) to take up this matter.
