Affaire des 5 milliards FCFA : Abdoulaye Sylla lance les saisies, Zakiroulahi Sow contre-attaque
The case of 5 billion CFA francs opposing businessman Abdoulaye Sylla to promoter Zakiroulahi Sow, which was examined on Monday before the Dakar Court of Appeal, has been adjourned until April 13.
A contested provisional execution
Zakiroulahi Sow, sentenced in the first instance last December to a one-year suspended prison sentence and ordered to repay the amount in question, is now seeking to block the immediate execution of this decision. Taking advantage of the fact that the judgment includes provisional enforcement, the head of Ecotra, Abdoulaye Sylla, has already initiated proceedings to seize his adversary's assets in an attempt to recover the funds.
In response, Sow's lawyers introduced a "provisional defense" procedure to suspend these seizures pending the final decision of the Court of Appeal, reports Les Échos, which attended the hearing.
A financial dispute surrounding SIAB in Togo
The same source notes that the case concerns a proposed takeover of the Société Interafricaine de Banque (SIAB), based in Togo. According to the prosecution, Ecotra allegedly paid 5 billion CFA francs to the Togolese Treasury at the suggestion of Zakiroulahi Sow. Abdoulaye Sylla, however, accuses Sow of having fabricated a project, through the company Siraj Holding, to embezzle these funds.
During the hearing, the defense submitted its case files to the Court. The judge ultimately adjourned the case until April 13 for closing arguments.
