Rato Mobio Venance, figure du groupe Bozambo, s'est éteint
Rato Mobio Venance, former member of the Afro-Caribbean group Bozambo, has died. The news was confirmed this Tuesday. His passing has plunged fans of Ivorian music and his many social media followers into mourning.
In the 1970s, alongside Jimmy Hyacinthe and Georges Ouédraogo, Rato Mobio Venance helped make Bozambo one of the most influential groups on the Afro-Caribbean music scene, blending jazz, funk and African rhythms.
In recent years, the artist had gained a second wave of fame, far removed from the music scene. On TikTok, his appearances alongside his son Louka, in videos full of complicity and humor, had captivated a whole new generation of internet users who were often unaware of his past as a musician.
His health has gradually deteriorated in recent months. He was notably hospitalized for five months in Paris, the city where he resided.
The passing of Rato Mobio Venance is seen as a loss for Ivorian and African music, and marks the end of an important chapter in the history of Bozambo.
