The Minister of Infrastructure, Déthié Fall, defends the continuation of projects undertaken by the State, despite budgetary constraints and delays on some construction sites. Health centers, roads, schools, universities, and urban infrastructure: he assures that the government's commitments remain unchanged, with adjustments to schedules and funding priorities.
100 health centers and 2,500 classrooms announced
In response to questions about the progress of infrastructure projects, Déthié Fall sought to reassure the public. According to him, no project initiated by the President of the Republic or the Ministry of Infrastructure is supposed to remain without monitoring or an implementation schedule.
The minister acknowledges, however, that some road construction projects may experience delays, particularly due to winter conditions or difficulties related to the supply of quarry materials. He assures that these constraints do not mean that the projects are being abandoned.
In the health sector, he announced a program of 100 health centers divided into three batches: 35 centers accompanied by three hospitals for the first phase, 35 centers and two hospitals for the second, then 30 centers for the third.
The education sector is also among the priorities. Déthié Fall mentioned a 62 billion CFA franc program to build 2,500 classrooms, along with 300 mini-boreholes and several hundred hygiene and sanitation facilities. The minister also stated that efforts have been undertaken with the Ministry of Higher Education to expedite the delivery of university infrastructure.
Ziguinchor, Sédhiou and other projects in sight
In the south of the country, road and urban infrastructure work in Ziguinchor is continuing despite delays. The minister recalls that the closure of Ziguinchor airport led the Head of State to demand that commitments made during that period be honored, particularly those aimed at facilitating travel and allowing the work to progress.
Déthié Fall also mentioned several projects whose funding needs to be reactivated or consolidated. In the crafts sector, discussions have notably begun with the Ministry of Finance regarding a 2 billion CFA franc program.
He also mentions projects in the Sédhiou region, notably in Bignona and Marsassoum, as well as other road construction projects. In parallel, discussions are underway with the relevant departments to support the modernization of 99 municipalities, with the next phase covering 33 municipalities.
For the minister, the challenge is to maintain commitments while adapting available resources to financial constraints. He emphasizes the need to plan expenditures, adhere to timelines, and prioritize. "If a project is sometimes delayed, it's not because it has been abandoned," he essentially argues, explaining that some projects simply need to go through various stages or await prioritization of their funding.
Déthié Fall's message is therefore clear: the delays observed on some construction sites should not be interpreted as a sign of the State giving up. The minister is counting on monitoring the projects and reorganizing resources to realize the stated ambitions in terms of infrastructure.
