Débat sur la dette : Marie Rose Faye apporte un démenti catégorique aux propos d’Abdourahmane Diouf
The controversy surrounding the restructuring of Senegal's debt continues unabated. During a press conference held by Pastef-Les Patriotes on current economic and financial affairs, particularly the issue of hidden debt and its management, Marie Rose Faye reacted strongly to recent statements by former minister Abdourahmane Diouf.
The latter had stated that Ousmane Sonko had given his agreement for the debt restructuring, thus reviving the debate on the discussions that allegedly preceded the announcement of the new technical agreement concluded with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“ At no point was restructuring discussed in the Council of Ministers.”
Speaking at this press conference, the Pastef official firmly contested the former minister's remarks.
“What he said suggests that this is a restructuring. I am truly ashamed. I was a minister of the Republic and I never thought that a person could reach this level of indignity,” she said.
According to her, the question of any debt restructuring was never raised during government meetings. "At no point was restructuring discussed in the Council of Ministers," she insisted.
Exposing false statements and criticizing the government
Marie Rose Faye also expressed her concern about the increasing number of what she considers to be false statements in the public sphere.
“A public figure should not adopt certain behaviors. I am truly ashamed. Seeing so many lies is frightening,” she lamented, believing that public officials should focus on the priorities and daily difficulties of the population rather than getting bogged down in political squabbles.
In the same breath, she attacked the functioning of the current government team, denouncing the attitude of certain cabinet members. "We have authorities who are there, ministers who are not working, who insult and do everything but deal with the priorities, namely getting the population out of its difficulties," she asserted.
This scathing outburst comes at a time when the management of public debt and the financial situation of Senegal remain at the heart of national political debates.
