Invited this Sunday, October 11, 2026, to the program "Jury du Dimanche" (JDD) on iRadio, the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sonacos, Youssou Diallo, delivered an uncompromising analysis of the political crisis shaking the former presidential majority. Between rivalries at the highest levels of government, the reshaping of the political landscape, and uncertainties surrounding the future of Pastef, the analyst dissected the dynamics of a now-completed rupture.
For Youssou Diallo, Ousmane Sonko's silence since leaving the Prime Minister's office reflects a desire to assess the impact of his time at the head of government. "Today, perhaps he is evaluating everything that has happened since he became Prime Minister until his dismissal," he stated.
Describing a spontaneous and responsive political leader, the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sonacos believes that Ousmane Sonko is now realizing the extent of the mistakes he made in managing his relationship with the Head of State. Youssou Diallo specifically highlights the calls for reconciliation made by some Pastef party officials, seeing them as a sign of deep concern within the party: "You can't have played a key role in the conquest of power and, barely two years later, find yourself in the opposition," he emphasizes, recalling the sudden loss of major levers of influence.
For his part, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye chose to fully engage in the political arena rather than using the state apparatus to resolve this dispute. The JDD's guest sees this as the mark of a "formidable politician." According to his analysis, the escalation of tensions materialized during the reorganization of the Diomaye President movement, notably marked by the replacement of Aïda Mbodj by Aminata Touré, thus confirming the exacerbation of the differences between the two men.
Internal opposition within the former majority
Youssou Diallo rejects the term "cohabitation" to describe the current situation, preferring to speak of an opposition born within the very heart of the victorious majority of 2024. He recalls having argued, for more than a year, for a clarification at the top of the executive, believing that this rivalry could not be prolonged without weakening the State.
Ousmane Sonko's departure from the Prime Minister's office opens a new and uncertain political chapter. In the National Assembly, the Pastef leader no longer wields the same prerogatives he did when he was at the helm of the government. This transition comes at a time when the political party is facing internal strife.
For Youssou Diallo, Pastef, which had reached peak popularity, is now experiencing a deep rift whose true impact will be measured in the upcoming elections. Referring to the fate of officials who have been removed from their positions, the analyst points out that the loss of the privileges of power often reshapes behaviors and alliances.
While Ousmane Sonko's silence is puzzling, one question remains: is he preparing a strategic repositioning or an open confrontation with Bassirou Diomaye Faye? For Youssou Diallo, the evolution of the balance of power within this political bloc will be decisive for the future of the Senegalese political scene.
