The measures announced before the National Assembly during the General Policy Statement of Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Amine Mouhamadou Lo, delivered on September 8, 2026, to reinstate or compensate workers unfairly dismissed by the outgoing government, have revived hope among the Collective of 44 agents in cessation of activities of the Ministry of Mines and Geology.
In a statement released today, the group welcomed the reinstatement of 288 employees of the Autonomous Port of Dakar (Port) by the new Director General, Mr. Doune Pathé Mbengue. According to the members, this decision is a positive sign that contributes to rectifying "unjust social situations." " This strong action helps to redress the social injustice suffered by workers and to restore social balance for a 'Senegal for all,'" they declared in the statement.
Despite numerous efforts and negotiations, the 44 employees of the Ministry of Mines, who are still awaiting reinstatement, have also denounced the attitude of their supervising minister, Cheikh Oumar Seck, whom they accuse of "remaining silent and complacent." "While these 44 employees have been enduring a true ordeal for over 27 months, the minister prefers to comment in the press on appointments that fall under the discretionary power of the Head of State rather than respond to the numerous appeals from the Prime Minister, the Minister of Labor, the High Council for Social Dialogue, the Trade Union Front, and others," they criticized in their statement.
The group finally welcomed the decision of the Port's Director General while urging Minister Cheikh Oumar Seck to reinstate the first social victims of the outgoing government in order to definitively shorten their suffering.
