Baignade fatale à Diamalaye : un écolier de 9 ans retrouvé mort sur le rivage
The district police station of unit 15 of Parcelles-Assainies was notified, this Tuesday around 4 a.m., of the discovery of a lifeless body washed up on the beach of Diamalaye.
According to information gathered by Seneweb, the body was washed ashore by the waves. Police officers from the station went to the scene and carried out the initial investigations. The body, found in an advanced state of decomposition, was then taken into the care of the fire department and transported to the Idrissa Pouye General Hospital in Grand Yoff for an autopsy.
Around 9 a.m., approximately five hours after the discovery, Mr. MB Gaye, the deceased's father, went to the police station. He had been informed of the discovery of a body on Diamalaye beach and was there to gather information.
After viewing the photograph of the victim and the clothes she was wearing, MB Gaye formally recognized and identified the body as that of his son, M. Gaye, aged 9, a student, residing in Kaolack, Sam district.
The father explained that his son was staying with his uncle in Diamalaye for three days and was due to return to Kaolack the previous Sunday, the very day of his disappearance. According to his statement, the child had gone to the beach with his cousins for a swim, an event which he believes led to the tragedy.
According to the latest information gathered from the victim's family, the body has been made available to them and steps have been taken to arrange for its burial in Kaolack.
The public prosecutor has been informed of this case.
