On July 24th, the housekeeper and son of TFM presenter Éva Tra were swindled by con artists who managed to steal gold jewelry valued at 12 million CFA francs. Taking up the case, the Faidherbe investigation unit arrested Mouhamed C., the alleged mastermind, on September 9th. His accomplice, Baye G., was arrested a few days later by the Kaolack gendarmerie before being transferred to Dakar.

According to Baye G.'s confession reported by L'Observateur, the two men went to Gambia to sell the loot. After meeting in Taiba Niassène, they first went to the Ndinguiraye crossroads. From there, they took a public transport vehicle towards Gambia, via Nioro and Keur Ayib, before reaching Serekunda.

Once there, according to the same source, Mouhamed C. contacted a wealthy Gambian gold trader known as Amath. The two men met him at his clothing store, where the alleged mastermind sold the first portion of the loot, which included "jewelry, ornaments, and necklaces." The transaction was finalized after "intense haggling" in Dalasi.

The pair then spent two nights in a local hotel, where they reportedly "partyed to their hearts' content," before returning to Senegal on July 27. On August 6, the two men retraced their steps to return to Serekunda and sell the remaining jewelry to the same merchant. Baye G. received "a commission of 200,000 CFA francs" for each of the two transactions, totaling 400,000 CFA francs.

The trial of the two suspects, initially scheduled for last week, has been postponed until September 25 at the request of Éva Tra's lawyer, following the arrest of the second defendant, reports the newspaper of the Groupe Futurs Médias. A confrontation between Mouhamed C. and Baye G. is planned to compare their accounts.
