Fleuve Gambie : forte remontée du niveau de l’eau à Kédougou, la vigilance maintenue
The level of the Gambia River has risen significantly at the Kédougou station. According to the daily hydrological bulletin of the Tambacounda/Kédougou Water Resources Brigade, published this Monday, September 14, 2026, the water level measured at 8 a.m. rose from 3.63 m to 4.28 m, an increase of 65 cm in 24 hours.
Despite this increase, the river level remains 2.72 meters below the alert level, set at 7 meters at the Kédougou station. The situation still needs to be monitored, however, particularly given the significant rise recorded in a single day.
On an interannual basis, the situation is significantly different. On the same date in 2025, the river level reached 7.08 meters, which is 2.80 meters higher than the measurement recorded on September 14, 2026.
Contrasting developments at other stations
The other monitoring stations show varying trends. At Simenti, the level rose from 5.45 m to 5.70 m, registering an increase of 25 cm. The alert level there is set at 13 meters, leaving a margin of error of 7.30 meters.
In Diaguiri, the water level also rose, increasing from 1.72 m to 1.99 m, a rise of 27 cm in 24 hours. However, it remains well below the alert level of 6 meters.
Conversely, a slight decrease was observed at Mako, where the water level fell from 3.48 m to 3.38 m, a reduction of 10 cm. At Gouloumbou, the drop was 6 cm, with the level settling at 6.21 m.
Sharp increase in Thiokoye
The most significant variations were observed at the Thiokoye and Niokolokoba stations. At Thiokoye, the water level reached 3.07 m, compared to 2.01 m previously, representing a dramatic increase of 1.06 m in 24 hours. At Niokolokoba, it rose by 39 cm to reach 2.47 m.
The summary table in the bulletin thus confirms a contrasting hydrological situation at the different measurement points: rising in Kédougou, Simenti, Diaguiri, Thiokoye and Niokolokoba, against a falling in Mako and Gouloumbou.
At this stage, the levels recorded at the monitored stations remain below the various alert levels indicated in the bulletin. However, daily developments should still be closely monitored, particularly in Kédougou where the increase recorded over the past 24 hours is significant.
