A 42-year-old Senegalese man died in a hospital in Genoa, Italy, under circumstances that remain unclear. According to the newspaper Les Échos, which broke the story, the victim had been arrested for the murder of a 48-year-old homeless man. A passerby, who alerted the police, reportedly saw him dragging the man's body.
The newspaper reports that law enforcement, who "intervened quickly," arrested the Senegalese man, placed him in custody before transferring him "to the hospital due to his state of health."
"Hospitalized under police guard, the suspect was to be transferred to custody as part of the legal proceedings against him. He died before the transfer," reports Les Échos. "According to the Italian press, the Senegalese man suffered from several health problems. The exact circumstances of his death have not yet been specified by the authorities."
The daily newspaper reports that the investigation is continuing "in order to shed light on both the circumstances of the murder of the Italian homeless man and the causes of the death of the Senegalese national, which occurred while he was under judicial supervision."
