La CDS dénonce la situation économique et sociale et appelle à la mobilisation
Meeting on September 18, 2026, the Conference of Leaders of the Confederation for Democracy and Socialism (CDS) presented an alarming assessment of the political, economic, and social situation in Senegal. In a statement, the opposition coalition strongly criticized the Pastef regime, accusing it of being more concerned with political rivalries than with the hardships faced by the people.
The CDS thus expresses its support for striking workers, including the SAMES union and the Trade Union Front for the Defense of Labor (FSDT), which is planning a 72-hour general strike in October. It also calls on the government to take urgent measures to support rural areas and to release, transparently, the 7 billion CFA francs announced to support farmers and livestock breeders.
The coalition is also concerned about the conditions for the start of the 2026-2027 school and university year, the infrastructure and teacher shortages, as well as the "special" recruitment of teachers, which it considers unclear.
With the Dakar-2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) approaching, the CDS also calls on the authorities to accelerate preparations, particularly in terms of urban development, reception and accommodation.
Finally, the coalition is demanding full transparency regarding several financial cases it cites, notably the 37 billion CFA francs linked to ASER and the 30 billion CFA francs associated with Kosmos. It calls on the opposition and the Senegalese people to maintain their mobilization to compel the government to address the country's urgent needs.
