In the space of 48 hours, two exceptionally violent fatal accidents struck the Louga region, reports L'Observateur. The first occurred on Monday, September 14, on the Dahra-Touba road. A tricycle carrying 17 passengers, en route to the weekly market in Daly, crashed head-on into a tree. Three members of the same family—Alla and Serigne Bâ, as well as Adama Ka—died instantly. The other passengers were injured and taken to the Elisabeth Diouf Medical Center in Dahra.
Less than 24 hours later, at dawn on Tuesday, September 15, a second accident struck the town of Ndam. A "Cheikhou Cherifou" type intercity bus , traveling from Thiamène to Dakar, overturned. According to initial findings of the investigation, the driver, "trying to avoid potholes," lost control of the vehicle on a "slippery road" after heavy rains. Four people, including three women, were killed before emergency services arrived. Seven seriously injured individuals were treated by the 52nd Fire and Rescue Company of Louga and then transported to Amadou Sakhir Mbaye Hospital.
Faced with this "road carnage," residents along this section of National Highway 2 are appealing to the new Minister of Transport, Abdou Lahad Ndiaye. They are demanding "urgent measures," including the installation of speed bumps, widening of the roadway, and leveling of the shoulders.
