On the Sédhiou-Marsassoum road (in Casamance), motorists and other road users are denouncing a situation that gives the impression the road has become a grazing area. Indeed, the roaming of domestic and wild animals is becoming a source of concern for road users.

Throughout the day, herds of cattle, goats and packs of dogs occupy the sides, or even the middle of the road.

Monkeys are also visible on the road, lounging or suddenly crossing in front of vehicles.

This constant presence of animals on the road complicates the already difficult traffic with the countless almost 180-degree turns.

This accelerates fatigue while driving, as drivers are forced to increase their concentration, vigilance, and attention.

For Seyni Bassene, a resident of the commune of Sansamba, "this straying is a real problem. We often find cattle lying on the tarmac. So, we have to stop to divert them completely."

For Daouda Touré, a minibus driver at the Sédhiou bus station, it is the herders who must watch their cattle. "The forest is vast and grassy. I wonder what the animals are doing on the public road. If we have to add other dangers to this already very winding road, it will only complicate the journey further," he says.

Users are calling on owners to better supervise their animals and keep them off the road. They also want greater involvement from local authorities to enforce regulations regarding stray animals.
