Thiès : acquitté après 4 ans de prison pour rien, il perd son père et son frère durant sa détention
After spending four years and one month in detention at Thiès prison in a case where he consistently maintained his innocence, Th. Diop was acquitted by the Criminal Court. Libération reports that the metalworker by trade had been remanded in custody in connection with an alleged gang rape, along with two co-defendants, P. Ndiaye and P. Guèye. Throughout the proceedings, from the preliminary investigation to the trial, including the formal investigation, Diop steadfastly denied the charges.
The Criminal Court ultimately followed the prosecution's recommendation, who had expressed his conviction of Diop's innocence. However, his two co-defendants were found guilty and each sentenced to five years in prison. During his detention, Diop also suffered a double family tragedy, losing both his father and his brother within two months, the newspaper reports.
