Traité de « casté » : le berger riposte à la machette, son antagoniste perd trois doigts
Held in custody, shepherd Kh. Ngom has been languishing in the Mbour prison since Monday. According to L'Observateur, he is being prosecuted for assault and battery following a violent clash stemming from a caste conflict that occurred last Thursday in the village of Ndioudiouf, in the commune of Sessène.
The tragedy, according to the same source, began when Kh. Ngom called his neighbor and adversary, the shepherd B. Mbaye, a "low-caste." Still harboring resentment over this insult, Mbaye seized the opportunity for revenge and struck Kh. Ngom twice on the head with a stick. Taken by surprise, Kh. Ngom retaliated with a machete, severing three fingers of Ngom's right hand before fleeing.
Lying in a pool of blood, B. Mbaye was discovered around 7 p.m. by residents of neighboring villages. He was then taken to the Thiadiaye health center before being transferred to the emergency room at the Thierno Mouhamadoul Mansour Barro Hospital in Mbour. Alerted by the victim's father, the Thiadiaye gendarmerie brigade quickly arrested the suspect at his father's home.
During his hearing, according to the newspaper of the Future Media Group, Kh. Ngom admitted to severing three of his neighbor's fingers, claiming self-defense and offering profuse apologies. Meanwhile, B. Mbaye, questioned in his hospital bed, denounced repeated provocations from his attacker and demanded justice. The accused was brought before a judge at the end of his police custody.
