Coupe du monde 2026 : Les États-Unis justifient le refoulement de l’arbitre Omar Artan
The controversy surrounding the denial of entry to the United States for Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan continues to fuel debate. Faced with criticism, the White House defended its decision, asserting that it was based on serious national security concerns.
During a meeting organized by the Atlantic Council, Andrew Giuliani, head of the team in charge of organizing the 2026 World Cup, assured that the American authorities had acted on the basis of precise information.
"An umpire was not allowed to enter the country. I cannot reveal the details, but I can assure you that this decision was made for a very good reason," the American official said.
Andrew Giuliani also indicated that other officials were denied entry to the United States in preparation for the World Cup. According to him, these measures are intended to prevent "malicious actors" from taking advantage of the event to enter the country.
Addressing the situation of certain members of the Iranian delegation, he suggested that thorough checks were underway. "Some people present themselves as coaches when they may not actually be," he stated.
