Équipe nationale : Face aux Comores, Vieira veut poursuivre le chantier des Lions
On the eve of the friendly match against Comoros, Patrick Vieira has a clear objective: to use this game to continue the work he has begun at the helm of the Lions and to learn from his team's first few outings. After the draw against Mozambique (1-1) and the victory against Ethiopia (1-0) in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the coach now wants to take the next step.
“We must continue to progress. Our objective is to learn from these three matches,” explained Patrick Vieira in a press conference. The French coach acknowledged having identified positive aspects in the first two games, but also several areas for improvement in the team's collective play.
This international period also allowed him to better understand his group. "Since my arrival, I knew that I had things to put in place. There were areas for improvement," he emphasized, also mentioning the lessons learned about the players' mindset and commitment while wearing the national jersey.
Give playing time to certain players
Against Comoros, the result will not be the only objective. Patrick Vieira intends to use this match to observe certain players who have not been used much since his arrival.
"This last match will be a friendly, but it's an important match for me and the staff because we need to learn lessons to improve and also have the opportunity to see some players who haven't had the opportunity to play so far," he said.
The coach also acknowledges the high standards that come with his position. For him, these standards must apply both on the field and in daily conduct. "High standards are part of being at the highest level. It's a daily requirement," he emphasized.
Four points, but still progress to be made.
From a points perspective, Vieira also highlighted the four points earned during the two away matches in Mozambique and Ethiopia. He considers this a positive result, while acknowledging that the quality of play still needs improvement.
"Taking these points from these two away games is a very positive result. After that, when we look a little more at the content, there are areas for improvement and we are aware of them," he said.
