Patrick Vieira assume la pression et veut découvrir le football local
Patrick Vieira is fully aware of the expectations surrounding his appointment as head coach of the Senegalese national team. Officially presented this Friday as the new manager of the Lions, the French coach assures everyone he knows what awaits him.
"Of course I know what to expect. When you see the players who make up this squad, it's normal that people expect this team to perform at the highest level," he said.
Drawing on his experiences in France, Italy, and England, Vieira believes he has grown through his various stints on the sidelines, particularly during his last experience at Genoa. "I am a better coach today than I was during my last experience at Genoa," he stated.
The new coach acknowledges, however, that he still needs to deepen his knowledge of local football. "I know African football. Do I really know local football well? That would be a lie," he admitted.
Together with the president of the Senegalese Football Federation, a program was established to allow him to travel around the country and discover local football, but also amateur football.
“There are many things I need to understand. Only time will tell what is happening here in the country,” concluded Patrick Vieira.
