Tournoi UFOA-A U17 : la Gambie domine la Mauritanie et rejoint le Sénégal en demi-finales
Gambia secured their place in the semi-finals of the WAFU Zone A U17 tournament after defeating Mauritania 3-1 on Thursday at the Lat Dior Stadium in Thiès. With two wins in as many matches, the young Scorpions guaranteed their qualification before their final group game against Senegal.
Gambia took an early lead thanks to Alieu Saine. The young striker opened the scoring in the 13th minute, well set up by Omar Marong. Despite Mauritanian attempts, the Gambians maintained their advantage until halftime.
Upon returning from the locker room, Mauritania found the necessary resources to equalize just four minutes after the restart (49th minute). The match then seemed to be back on, but Gambia was able to rely on the depth of its bench to make the difference.
Substitute Omar Badjie restored his team's lead in the 78th minute. In the dying seconds of the match, Muhammed Jatta sealed the Gambian victory by scoring the third goal in the 94th minute.
Thanks to this 3-1 victory, Gambia confirms its excellent start to the tournament with six points from two matches. Already qualified for the semi-finals, the young Scorpions can now calmly prepare for their final group match against Senegal, where first place will be at stake.
