Ziguinchor: The president of the regional basketball league is calling for the strengthening of sports infrastructure.

In Ziguinchor, the president of the Ziguinchor Regional Basketball League, Mamadou Lamine Saul Sidibé, praised the efforts made by the town hall in developing sports infrastructure while calling for this momentum to continue in order to better support youth and basketball stakeholders.

Speaking at the Mayor's Cup competitions dedicated to promoting the sport, the regional basketball official expressed his satisfaction with the achievements undertaken by the municipality under the leadership of Mayor Djibril Sonko.

"We, the basketball players who work in this discipline, are very happy, very pleased and very delighted by the action of the mayor and the Ziguinchor town hall towards basketball," he said.

While acknowledging the progress made in recent years, Mamadou Lamine Saul Sidibé pointed out that basketball still faces significant challenges, particularly in terms of sports infrastructure.

"Basketball is still experiencing some difficulties, especially in terms of infrastructure. That has to be acknowledged," he insisted.

According to him, the gradual improvement of play areas in schools, public spaces and several neighborhoods of the city is an encouraging sign for the development of the sport.

"Since the arrival of Mayor Djibril Sonko, we have been improving the facilities at schools, public institutions and especially in certain neighborhoods," he stressed.

For the president of the regional league, these investments not only help to strengthen the practice of basketball, but also to offer young people spaces for expression, guidance and development.

He believes that increasing local infrastructure will allow more young people to discover basketball, develop their talents and actively participate in the sporting life of the region.

"This will really allow us to do our best and give all the youth of Ziguinchor the chance to truly flourish as they should," argued Mamadou Lamine Saul Sidibé.

Through this intervention, the head of regional basketball is thus calling for the consolidation of achievements and the continuation of investments in sports infrastructure, which he considers an essential lever for the development of basketball and the flourishing of Ziguinchor youth.
