Hausse des prix du carburant : la consigne de Gora Khouma aux transporteurs
The rise in fuel prices must not lead to an increase in transport costs. This is the key message emphasized by Gora Khouma, president of the Senegalese Road Haulers' Union, as reported by RTS. The union leader urges all stakeholders in the road transport sector to act responsibly by maintaining current rates.
While acknowledging that this price increase is "bad news," Gora Khouma recognizes the impact of tensions in the Gulf on international prices, where the price of a barrel reached $88 in early August, compared to the projected $64. The union leader remains adamant: households can no longer bear additional burdens.
“The public cannot keep up with this pace. We, the road transport operators, will not respond to this increase with a price hike. We will not do so,” he stated. While this decision brings immediate relief to users of yellow taxis, minibuses, and Ndiaga Ndiaye buses, it presents transport operators with a complex dilemma between soaring operating costs and preserving their income.
