Road safety in Ila Touba: A major operation put in place to ease the burden on road users for the Magal pilgrimage.

“During this Magal 2026, the most frequent breakdowns observed on the Ila Touba highway were related to problems with windshield wipers, headlights, bulbs, heaters, and brakes.” This observation comes from Alimatou Ndiaye Ba, president of the National Association of Mechanics of Senegal, within the framework of the “Road Safety Village-Magal Touba” project. She notes that “this year, for the religious event, we mobilized 70 technicians (mechanics and electricians) to focus on road safety.”

“A significant system has been put in place for this Magal Touba 2025, to relieve all users who are in difficulty on the Ila Touba highway,” assures Mouhamadou Moustapha Ndao, commercial and marketing manager of the highway operating and management company (CEGA).

He explains that it is a secure village that has been in place for several years already. "We work with the mechanics' associations who have put in place a significant system in terms of human and material resources," he notes.

Mouhamadou Moustapha Ndao also took the opportunity to send a message to drivers, urging them to carry out the necessary checks before setting off. The operations director of the national highway company Autoroute du Sénégal SA added: as usual, the Ministry of Transport has taken significant measures regarding the safety of pilgrims departing from Dakar and other countries, given the global significance of the Magal of Touba.

The main objective of the "Road Safety Village - Magal Touba" revolves around free vehicle inspections and repairs, with the slogan "Zero Accident Goal." This initiative of the National Road Safety Agency (ANASER) offers free vehicle inspections, repairs, and driver awareness programs. Its aim is to reduce road accidents by checking the technical condition of vehicles before or during the major pilgrimage.
