Casamance : Une alliance féminine pour transformer la lutte contre les violences
They now refuse to act in a disorganized manner. In Ziguinchor and Sédhiou, the Platform of Women for Peace in Casamance (PFPC), with the support of the governorate, the Ministry of Family and Solidarity, and UN Women, has launched a framework to harmonize actions against gender-based violence.
PFPC Vice-President Léonie Gomis pointed out that until now, associations had been working in isolation, which compromised the reliability of the data. From now on, the tools will be standardized, actions coordinated, and each organization will be able to contribute its expertise to a shared strategy.
This system goes beyond simply reporting abuse; it aims for a holistic approach to victims, integrating health, justice, psychological support, and social assistance. "We want reliable data to take better action, but above all, to reduce cases of violence. The most important thing is that there are fewer victims," Ms. Gomis emphasized.
The PFPC also emphasizes awareness and prevention. In a society where victims are too often stigmatized, it's about breaking taboos and changing mindsets. "It won't be automatic, but with time, we'll get there," she stated.
In a region marked by the aftereffects of the conflict, this synergy of forces appears as a historic step forward. It embodies a strong political and social will: to empower women and girls to act, to protect themselves, and to rebuild peace.
