Algérie -AES : Le Premier ministre nigérien Lamine Zeine à Alger après son homologue malien Abdoulaye Maiga
Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine has been on a working visit to Algiers since Wednesday, August 26, 2026. He met with his Algerian counterpart, Sifi Ghrieb, on Thursday. The two discussed "the state of bilateral relations and prospects for strengthening cooperation between Niamey and Algiers, as well as several other issues of common interest."
Algeria has a greater presence in Niger
The discussions between Sifi Ghrieb and his host were "followed by a meeting expanded to include delegations from both countries, dedicated to reviewing various cooperation and partnership issues, as well as ways and means of strengthening coordination and joint action in various fields."
It goes without saying that Algeria and Niger cooperate in several areas such as training, hydrocarbons and energy.
On August 13th, ENAFOR, the Algerian drilling company and subsidiary of Sonatrach, launched drilling operations for the "Kafra South-East 1" production well in the Agadez region. A little earlier, on June 3rd, Algeria generously donated a 40-megawatt power plant to Niamey.
Through its projects and achievements, the Maghreb country seeks to extend its diplomatic and economic influence in Niger.
The peace of the brave
His efforts are also focused on Mali, another ESA country with which he once had difficult relations.
Malian Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maiga was in Algiers earlier this week. He was received by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The 80-year-old leader expressed his support for easing tensions between Algiers and Bamako. He stated that Mali and Algeria were destined to live together and work towards the prosperity of their two peoples. He also pledged to make the Sahel region a "haven of peace, a region free from all forms of neocolonialism, all forms of hegemony, and terrorism," in close cooperation with his Malian counterpart, Assimi Goita.
In conclusion, Mr. Tebboune reiterated that his country "will never interfere in the internal affairs of Mali."
With the diplomatic thaw now in effect, the two countries will be able to strengthen their cooperative ties and the historical relations that bind them.
