Burkina Faso : des peines de prison requises contre des femmes dans une affaire d’excision
The Ouaga I High Court examined a case of female genital mutilation involving six women, including one alleged practitioner, and five people prosecuted for complicity. The case concerns three girls aged 7 to 10 who underwent the procedure.
The prosecution has requested a 12-month prison sentence and a 500,000 FCFA fine for the woman who performed the female genital mutilation, as well as 8-month prison sentences and 500,000 FCFA fines for four other defendants. The acquittal of the mother of one of the victims has also been requested.
The defendants admitted to the acts, while claiming they were unaware of their illegal nature. The verdict is expected on August 29, 2026.
