Burkina : Le capitaine Traoré donne des nouvelles de son projet de nucléaire civil
Many rightly wondered if the civilian nuclear project championed by Captain Ibrahim Traoré had finally fallen into oblivion. In any case, nothing had been heard of it since 2024.
In a recent press interview, the President of Burkina Faso provided an update on this project. It is clear that the commander-in-chief of the land of upright men has not abandoned the nuclear option.
"We don't want to use nuclear power and not be sovereign."
However, he doesn't want to rush anything. "It's a project. There's no need to rush. When we talk about sovereignty, it's not just words. You have to know what you want. And we don't want to develop nuclear power without being sovereign. That's why, when we started the project, we said: we're not in a hurry. It will take as long as it takes. Those who will work in these power plants are Burkinabé , and we need you to train them."
“We were told that the training will take time. An engineer takes a maximum of 5 years. If he also has to learn the language (of the training country), that makes 6 or 7 years,” said Captain Traoré.
"We want complete sovereignty"
He revealed that he had already sent a first cohort of students for training. "We want our engineers to be involved in the construction, to understand, and to know how to manage these nuclear power plants. We want complete sovereignty," the President of Burkina Faso stated. For him, having a nuclear power plant with foreign assistance is inconceivable.
