Burkina : Quand la garde républicaine se met à la pisciculture
In Burkina Faso, the Republican Guard not only ensures the protection of the President of Faso and the institutions of the Republic. This elite unit also works towards the country's food sovereignty.
Indeed, its members harvested their very first production of African catfish (wels catfish) on the morning of Thursday, October 8 at the Naba-Koom II camp in Ouagadougou.
The average weight of the specimens is approximately 3.5 kg
To achieve such a harvest, they had to stock two fish ponds with a capacity of 80 m3 each, with 5,000 fry.
After approximately seven months of monitoring, care, and feeding, the catfish were harvested. The average weight of the specimens was about 3.5 kg, according to Warrant Officer Martin Kadeba.
For battalion commander Jean Ouiya, "this harvest is intended to be a major act symbolizing the will of comrade Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Faso, to make our dear homeland a sovereign state in all areas and particularly in the field of agriculture and livestock."
Beyond meeting food needs, this initiative has an essential social and human dimension.
