Drame migratoire en Gambie : Le mystère toujours entier autour des disparus de Jinack Kajata
The investigation into the migrant tragedy off the coast of Jinack Kajata, Gambia, raises new concerns about the number of victims and the fate of the passengers still missing.
According to information gathered, three bodies were discovered on October 14, 2026, before further recovery operations were conducted with the support of the Red Cross. Four survivors also received psychological support at Jinack Hospital. However, they were unable to specify the exact number of people who were on board the vessel.
Initial reports indicate that a small pirogue was transferring migrants to a larger vessel offshore. The accident is believed to have occurred during the boat's fourth voyage. The tragedy dates back to the night of October 11, but the exact circumstances remain to be determined.
More bodies have reportedly been recovered, bringing the death toll to over 15. The decomposing state of some of the bodies is also complicating their identification, increasing the anguish of families searching for their loved ones.
According to available information, the ship that was supposed to receive the migrants continued on its way to Spain after the incident.
Reports also indicate that several pirogues departed from Jinack Kajata during October. For several months, the Gambian coast has become a departure point for many people seeking irregular migration, including Senegalese nationals.
