Gambie : Le pari risqué du président Adama Barrow
It's an open secret. Gambian President Adama Barrow is running for a third term . A recent poll conducted by Gambia Participates even shows him as the favorite. He reportedly has a 51% chance of winning the presidential election on December 5th.
The leader, however, is projected to lose to the mayor of Kanifing, Talib Bensouda, in the West Coast region. At a rally held last weekend in the Busumbala constituency, the State House occupant expressed reservations about the poll predicting his defeat in this important administrative region of The Gambia.
"If these people were to win, we would withdraw from political life permanently."
He even went so far as to take a risky gamble. "I just called my governor (Ousman Bojang) of the West Coast and told him that a poll had been conducted indicating that some novice politicians were going to win the elections on the West Coast. I warned the governor that if these people won, we would withdraw from political life permanently. We would cease all political activity in this country," said Adama Barrow.
Clearly, the 61-year-old leader is confident of winning the West Coast presidency in December. But beware of surprises. He might be reminded of his past statements and urged to keep his word.
