Guinée: Cellou Dalein Diallo réagit au décès de Sydia Touré
It's an open secret. Former Guinean Prime Minister Sidya Touré died on Friday, September 25th in Paris at the age of 81. The passing of the leader of the Union of Republican Forces (UFR) has triggered a flood of tributes.
Guinean opposition leader Cellou Dalein Diallo, for example, confessed his "immense sadness" upon learning of the death of the native of Dimbokro.
Sidya Touré and I have intertwined destinies.
For him, "Guinea has lost one of its valiant sons, a statesman with an exceptional career, a competent and rigorous technocrat whose time as Prime Minister allowed Guinea to reconnect with the Bretton Woods institutions, to deepen the reforms undertaken, to tackle the thorny problem of electricity and of course, to revive growth."
In politics, the president of the Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea (UFDG) acknowledges having always been on the same side as the deceased. “Allies in the second round of the 2010 presidential election, we together launched the Collective of Political Parties, which would later become the Republican Opposition, with the stated objective of demanding and obtaining the timely organization of legislative and municipal elections. Clearly, Sidya Touré and I have intertwined destinies, often bearing the same cross and sometimes even enduring harassment together. Thus, we were both harassed and defrauded, removed from the electoral register, and saw our political parties dissolved. God willed that fate would reunite us both once again, in exile in Abidjan, Ivory Coast,” recounted Cellou Dalein Diallo.
A shared dream
The political opponent considers the deceased a "friend, a fellow traveler and comrade in arms" with whom he shared the same dream for Guinea: to "transform the country, with all its potential, into a prosperous economy, governed by the rules and principles of democracy, the rule of law, and founded on virtuous governance."
