Guinée: deux collectifs réclament la lumière sur six corps ligotés dans une fosse commune
Two groups called on Wednesday for answers regarding the six bodies found bound and blindfolded in a mass grave in southwestern Guinea, in separate statements.
The citizen movement "Turn the Page-Guinea" (TLP-Guinea) and the National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC), made up of parties, unions and NGOs, published their statements after the discovery on Monday of the six bodies - all men - in a forest.
The discovery was made by young people collecting firewood in the sub-prefecture of Allassoyah (prefecture of Forécariah), in the Lower Guinea region, local sources told AFP on Tuesday.
Local authorities and the public prosecutor went to the scene. During the exhumation, it was discovered that the hands of the six individuals had been bound and their eyes blindfolded, according to the same sources. An investigation has been opened.
TLP-Guinea said it learned "with deep indignation" of the discovery of the six bodies, in a statement released Wednesday. "The modus operandi, the bodies hidden in an isolated area, and the lack of identification at this stage raise serious questions," it said.
"Since September 5, 2021," the date of the junta's seizure of power that overthrew President Alpha Condé, who had been in power for more than 10 years, "TLP-Guinea has documented numerous reports of alleged extrajudicial executions of civilians and state agents suspected of disloyalty," it states.
The head of the junta, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, who has since become a general, was subsequently elected president in December 2025.
"Does this macabre discovery in Forécariah fit into this series of extrajudicial executions?", asks TLP-Guinea.
The organization "demands" that the investigation opened by the Forécariah prosecutor's office be "independent, transparent, and credible." It calls on the UN, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the International Federation for Human Rights, and embassies in Guinea "to support the efforts of the competent authorities so that the full truth is uncovered about this tragedy."
For its part, the FNDC is calling for "the immediate opening of independent autopsies and DNA comparisons" to identify the exhumed individuals, in its statement signed by its lawyers.
They assert that the discovery of the six bodies can only "draw attention to the hypothesis, at this stage unverified but which cannot be ruled out, of an extrajudicial execution targeting people considered to be opponents of the Guinean regime."
They recall that two figures of the FNDC have disappeared for more than two years: Oumar Sylla, alias Foniké Menguè, and Mamadou Billo Bah, arrested on July 9, 2024, have since disappeared and no one has received any news of them.
"It cannot be ruled out that the bodies discovered in Forécariah are those of people who disappeared for political reasons, among whom could be Mr. Foniké Menguè and Mr. Billo Bah," say the lawyers of the FNDC, who are calling for "an investigation conducted with diligence, impartiality and transparency."
