« Il a confié notre sécurité à l’Ecomig et on est dépendant du Sénégal pour l’électricité » : L’opposant gambien Bensouda critique Barrow
In The Gambia, Ahmed Talib Bensouda, the Coalition 2026 candidate in the December presidential election, recently criticized the rise in crime in the country. He attributes this to the "outsourcing" of national security to ECOMIG.
"If we are seeing an increase in crime, it is because President Barrow has entrusted our security to ECOMIG. Even his personal security is in the hands of ECOMIG," criticized the very popular mayor of Kanifing.
"He ran to ask President Macky Sall for help."
In the event of a victory for the Coalition 2026 in the December presidential election, he promises to ensure that national security is guaranteed by Gambians.
The mayor also mentioned the electricity crisis in Gambia, accusing Barrow of not having developed local solutions to this problem.
"When he came to power and saw an electricity crisis, he ran to President Macky Sall for help. And now that Senegal is facing an electricity problem, they have stopped supplying us with electricity as they did before," the opposition leader said.
"If the 2026 Coalition comes to power, The Gambia will produce its own electricity."
He promises to prioritize domestic electricity production if he is elected on the evening of December 5, 2026.
"If the 2026 Coalition comes to power, Gambia will produce its own electricity," the young mayor said.
