"He will end up like Savimbi": A Congolese politician from the ruling party predicts a tragic end for Joseph Kabila

Has Joseph Kabila turned his back on the Republic?

The former Congolese president has taken the helm of a political-military movement called the Front for the Refounding of the Nation (FRN). This information was made public yesterday, Monday, October 12, 2026.

The new movement has two rebels as vice-presidents: Corneille Nangaa, coordinator of the Congo River Alliance (AFC) and Bertrand Bisimwa, president of the M23.

"At the time, Jonas Savimbi defied the international community. Today, Kabila has done the same."

Angustin Kabuya, Secretary General of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS), strongly criticized the new political and military direction of the former Congolese president, before predicting a tragic end for him.

“Kabila will end up like Savimbi. Back then, Jonas Savimbi defied the international community. Today, Kabila has done the same. Some people think he’s a military man and that he can get away with anything he wants. When you look at the situation of President Eduardo dos Santos (civilian) and Savimbi (military), history risks repeating itself again, this time here at home,” declared Augustin Kabuya this Tuesday, after a meeting with Christophe Mboso Nkodia Mpwanga at the headquarters of the presidential party.

It is worth recalling that Jonas Savimbi, leader of the Angolan UNITA rebellion, was hunted down and killed in February 2002 during a military clash with the Angolan army near Lucusse, after being located via his satellite phone.

The announcement of the creation of the FRN marks a turning point in the recomposition of forces opposed to the government of President Félix Tshisekedi.

Joseph Kabila takes this opportunity to clarify his role in the rebellion, according to Augustin Kabuya.
