"Ils seront punis" : Le président sud-africain Ramaphosa promet des mesures contre les auteurs des violences xénophobes
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa was in Parliament yesterday, Tuesday, August 25, to answer questions from members of parliament. MP Julius Malema, a prominent opposition figure and leader of The Economic Freedom Fighters, asked him why the perpetrators of xenophobic violence had not been arrested and prosecuted.
Attackers unleashed "their violence against African immigrants in the presence of the police"
“We know who the instigators and perpetrators of this violence are. They have faces. In some cases, we have seen aggressors unleash their violence against African immigrants in the presence of the police. And yet none of these aggressors are arrested,” the opponent of the ANC leader declared.
Ramaphosa responded, promising the arrest and indictment of those responsible for the violence against African migrants. He stressed that some perpetrators of violence had already been arrested and that further arrests and prosecutions would take place once the police had gathered sufficient evidence.
"Measures will be taken, particularly against those who caused injuries or deaths... I pledge that they will be punished," added the leader of the rainbow nation.
