Kédougou : Le débordement du Diarawol ravage les champs de maïs et d'arachide à Salémata
The situation is becoming particularly worrying in the commune of Salémata, located in the Kédougou region. The torrential rainfall recorded in recent days has caused a flash flood of the Diarawol river, resulting in the inundation of several surrounding farms.
Entire plantations, as well as hectares of corn and peanut crops, are now underwater. This early flooding has caused great distress among local farmers, who fear irreversible losses at a crucial stage in the agricultural season. Faced with this imminent danger, farmers in Salémata are calling for emergency intervention from the authorities to contain the damage and implement protective measures.
Beyond the Diarawol flood, the municipality faces recurring infrastructural vulnerabilities. With each intense rainfall event, uncontrolled runoff floods numerous properties, causing significant material damage and deteriorating household sanitation.
For residents, the recurrence of these disasters highlights the urgent need to strengthen the municipal sanitation network and develop adequate drainage structures to channel rainwater runoff.
