Le Mali et la Chine, mobilisés pour régler la crise des visas
The Chinese embassy in Mali announced in early September the temporary suspension of its visa service for "purely technical reasons." It also assured the public that the issuance of travel documents would resume as soon as possible, upon completion of the reconstruction work on its consular section.
Yesterday, Wednesday, September 16, 2026, Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop held a working session with Chinese Ambassador Li Xiang. Also present were Minister of Industry and Trade Moussa Alassane Diallo and representatives of umbrella organizations in the private sector.
Removing restrictions related to the issuance of Chinese visas
The discussions focused on ways to overcome these constraints related to the issuance of Chinese visas and to facilitate mobility between the two countries.
In view of the mutual interests linked to economic, commercial and human exchanges between Mali and China, the two parties, following direct discussions, considered the diligent implementation of alternative and pragmatic technical solutions for an effective resumption of Chinese consular services in Bamako.
