Niger : La détonation d'un engin explosif tue un jeune et fait deux blessés dans le quartier Aéroport de Niamey
In Niger, the Airport district of Niamey was the scene of a tragedy on Saturday, August 29th, just after the protest at Air Force Base 101 in the city. Three young men had the misfortune of encountering an explosive device. Unaware that it was dangerous, they handled it. It was then that the device exploded, instantly killing Nasir, who was about 20 years old.
"His friend Souleymane, deeply distraught by the scene, subsequently lost his life in this tragic circumstance."
His two other companions were seriously injured. Another young man, distraught by what he had just witnessed, also reportedly took his own life by hanging himself from a tree on his property.
“We heard the cries and went to the scene. When we arrived, we found Nasir already dead. His friend Souleymane, deeply shaken by the scene, then lost his life in this tragic circumstance,” said Souley, Nasir’s uncle, to the Nigerien Press Agency (ANP).
The two injured were questioned by police before being taken to the hospital. The two deceased boys were buried in the Muslim cemetery of Saga on the afternoon of Saturday, August 29, 2026.
